Many companies look at the cost of recruitment as the fee they pay agencies, whilst some also include the cost of their own managers working on the recruitment process.
However few companies calculate the cost of recruitment to include the cost of bringing a new member of staff up to full productivity.
For example it can take experienced developers up to six months to become fully productive even if they are experts in the development tool set. Understanding the structure of applications, the required business knowledge, the project processes of the new company and in many cases the clients, is a time consuming process. In addition during this spin up time the new employee requires greater supervision and training. The total cost of recruitment will vary between companies depending on the fully loaded cost of employees and each company will more accurately determine this, however it is suggested that the cost is in the region of 4 to 5 times the invoice cost to a recruitment agency.
It is therefore very cost effective for companies to retain their staff and it is the role of the recruitment agency to source candidates who not only match the role brief and are a good cultural fit, but whose social and aspirational needs are met by the new role thus, increasing the likelihood of them remaining in the role longer and becoming more productive for the company.
